Stater Bros. Market before and after.
Click either for enlargements. The DWP will pay its customers $0.50 for each square foot of turf removed over 500 square feet. For example, if you have 1,500 square feet of turf, the DWP will pay you $500 to remove it.
Please contact the DWP (866-5050) prior to removing the turf, so that the turf can be measured. The DWP will then maintain a record of the amount of turf to be removed, for reimbursement purposes. Once the turf is removed, contact the DWP for a second inspection. Once the DWP has confirmed that the turf has been removed, the DWP will send you a check for the amount due.
If you are a resident of the City of Big Bear Lake, you can dispose of your turf at both of the clean bear sites at no charge. A few rules apply:
- Only homeowners within the City of Big Bear Lake can dispose of the turf at the Clean Bear Sites.
- No contractor or landscaper can dispose of turf for a homeowner at the Clean Bear Sites.
- Remove as much dirt as possible to minimize disposal weight.
- If possible, let the turf dry out before disposal.
XERISCAPE LANDSCAPING
Xeriscape landscaping does not mean landscaping without any irrigation at all. "Xeri" means dry in a relative sense, not "zero" which means a total absence of. Thus, xeriscape landscaping simply means landscaping with less water.
Xeriscape landscaping and water conservation can be accomplished in many ways. There are seven basic principles of xeriscaping.
- Planning and Design
- Soil Analysis
- Appropriate Plant Selection
- Limit the Use of Turf
- Irrigate Efficiently
- Use Mulches
- Appropriate Maintenance
Come join the majority of Big Bear Valley residents who are already using water wisely. With a little creativity, it is possible to have an attractive landscape while using relatively ( remember "xeri") little water.
