WATER TOPICSSPRING IS FOR LANDSCAPING
Don't let a little snow stop you from considering landscaping plans for this upcoming spring. The Big Bear Valley's nurseries typically open April 1st. So, now is the time to collect your thoughts and prepare. Besides, plants do better when planted during the cooler spring weather versus the heat of summer.
A good place to develop some landscaping ideas is the DWP's web site (www.bbldwp.com). Go to the "Landscaping" section under "Conservation" and you can download a landscaping guide, view photos and plant lists of actual low water-use gardens from the Big Bear Valley, browse the extensive lists of cold and drought tolerant plants, view photos and descriptions of plants suitable for the Big Bear Valley, and glean ideas from the two on-line catalogues that are linked from the web site. If you would rather discuss your plans with a real person, contact one of the valley's landscape contractors or the DWP's Water Conservation Coordinator (866-5050). This group has been working together, through the winter months, sharing ideas on low water-use landscaping appropriate for the Big Bear Valley.
Attractive, low water-use landscaping is a key part of efficient water-use by the community. So plan and plant early this year. You'll reap the benefits throughout the coming summer.
