NO OUTDOOR WATERING ON THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY
WEEKEND
As we work into summer and our water use increases,
it becomes critical to ensure that our reservoirs remain full
to accommodate the increased visitor traffic and to have the
maximum water available to fight wildfire, should the situation
arise. The 4th of July Holiday is the valley's most critical
when it comes to wildfire. A large number of visitors flock
to the valley and some will bring fireworks with them. This
holiday also coincides with drying vegetation as the summer's
heat increases. Thus, we have drying fuel and increased possibility
of ignition. Accordingly, the DWP has decided to ensure that
their reservoirs remain at maximum capacity by disallowing
all outdoor watering on Saturday and Sunday July 2nd and 3rd.
We appreciate your cooperation.
There are numerous other ways that all us can
ensure that we have plenty of water for the upcoming holiday
and for years to come. Find ways to increase your water-use
efficiency both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, eliminate leaking
toilets and dripping faucets. Whenever you replace a washing
machine or dishwasher, select a low water-use model for a replacement.
Outdoors, water all existing landscaping only as much as is
needed to maintain healthy plants. Also, consider replacing
high water-use vegetation with hardscapes or low water-use
plants.
