SUMMER'S PASSING, BUT WATER EFFICIENCY
IS STILL A WAY OF LIFE
Just because cooler fall weather is near doesn't
eliminate the need for using water efficiently. Granted, the
irrigation season is coming to an end. But, there is still
much the community can do to improve its water-use efficiency.
The first thing we can all do is make sure all of our toilets,
faucets, and showerheads meet the DWP's current low flow/flush
standards (2.0 gallons per minute or less). Currently the DWP
provides showerheads and faucet aerators free of charge. Additionally,
qualifying homeowners can sign up to have their bathrooms retrofitted
for free or get a $75 credit on their water bills for retrofitting
toilets with a low-flush model. All of these free-bies and
rebates are available to qualifying homes within the DWP service
area.
It's also not too late to conserve water outdoors.
Shorter days and cooler nights reduce your landscape's water
needs. Using sprinkler run-times needed during peak summer
heat, results in considerable over-watering in the fall. By
the middle of September, sprinkler run-times should be adjusted
to shorter run-times to match the reduced demand. Increasing
our water-use efficiency is everyone's responsibility. If you
need ideas on how to do this, check out our web site www.bbldwp.com
or call us at (909) 866-5050.
