NOTES FROM THE TRT & BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
The DWP Technical Review Team (TRT) meets each
spring and fall to review, among other things, well pumping
capacity and water levels in wells to make objective, science-based
evaluations of the status of DWP's water supply. From these
evaluations, they formulate recommendations to the Board of
Commissioners, so the Board can make well-informed decisions
about supplying water to the community. Here is a summary of
the TRT's most recent findings and actions taken by the DWP
Board at the April 26th meeting.
Findings:
- With some exceptions, water levels are expected to return
to pre-drought levels, over the next several months.
- While DWP's ability to produce water has improved, compared
to this time last year, it is prudent to continue to conserve
and promote increased water-use efficiency to allow for additional
recovery of our ground water reserves.
- Although there appears to be some aquifer response in Lake
William, it has been limited. Therefore, there is considerable
concern for this portion of the DWP service area and the
DWP will continue to explore long-term water supply solutions
for these customers.
Actions taken by the DWP Board of Commissioners:
- Water Shortage Emergency Conservation Stage II regulations
remain in effect throughout the valley, including "no new
turf" installations.
- The number of new connections will remain at 160 per year.
- New connections will remain limited to 4 per year in Lake
William.
