CONSERVATIONAt the DWP, managing water demand or consumption through the promotion of water efficient programs and conservation is a key approach to managing the overall water supply and meeting future water needs. This is due to the high cost of conventional strategies associated with supplemental water supply provided through outside suppliers and the establishment of new pipelines to distribute water to our community.
DWP management recognizes that savings achieved through conservation programs is just as tangible and important as the same unit of supply provided through alternate “off the mountain” or recycled water sources. It’s also cheaper!
Through conservation, DWP management anticipates meeting future demand more cost effectively. Over the last few years, the DWP has put a number of conservation measures and incentives in place to achieve water savings. These measures include:
WATER SAVING MEAURES
- Outdoor watering schedules
- Limitations on new outdoor turf and turf removal program
- Submission and approval of landscape plans for new landscaping in excess of 1,000 sq. feet
- The Retrofit on Change in Service Program (upon change in service, the owner has 90 days to certify that the bathroom and kitchen fixtures are low flow, low flush) and
- The Water Demand Offset Program
