CONSERVATION CORNER
TIPS FOR WINTERIZING YOUR HOME
Every year frozen pipes result in costly plumbing
repairs and significant water waste and occasionally property
damage. If you notice water leaking following one of our
cold spells, please report it immediately to the homeowner
and appropriate water provider. Here are some tips that should
prevent this from happening at your home. Whenever you leave
your home for several days, protect it by doing the following.
- Turn off the water by closing your stop and drain valve.
- Open all faucets to eliminate water from the pipes.
- Flush all toilets to drain them.
- Pour biodegradable antifreeze in all sinks and toilets
to protect the traps.
- Open all outdoor hose bibs.
- Close the stop and drain valve on your sprinkler system.
- Place your stop and drain key where it is readily available,
in case of emergencies.
- Wrap all exposed pipes with water pipe insulation.
- Remember, heating your home, while you are away, does
not guarantee that pipes won't freeze.
KEEP IN MIND THAT WATER CONSERVATION IS
IMPORTANT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
PLEASE MAKE WATER CONSERVATION A WAY OF LIFE.
