CONSERVATION CORNER
HOW
THE WATER BUDGET WORKS
Each month DWP customers get a new water budget
and the glass appears full at the first of each month. For
example, May's water budget was 75 million gallons and June's
is 86 million gallons. These numbers reflect a 10% reduction
in water use over previous years and are designed to attain
the goals of Water Conservation Stage II defined in DWP's
Water Shortage Emergency Resolution. At the end of week 1,
the glass will appear ¾ full; week 2, ½ full;
week 3, ¼ full; etc. if we are on target for the month's
water budget. However, the water level will be adjusted to
our actual water use. Some weeks it may be above or below
the target lines, depending on our water use. So, please
stay informed by checking the water budget signs regularly.
One key aspect of DWP's water conservation
efforts this summer is the outdoor watering schedule. Remember,
no watering between 9 am and 6 pm. Additionally, all DWP
customers can only water every other day according to the "even/odd" watering
schedule. Addresses ending with an even number, water on
even numbered dates and addresses ending with an odd number,
water on odd numbered days of the month. Our wells need your
help this summer due to declining water levels. Please follow
the above outdoor watering guidelines and only apply the
water your plants need. Over-watering is one of DWP's biggest
problems and one of the easiest to correct. Please conserve!
