CONSERVATION CORNER
HABITS AND ATTITUDE:
THE KEYS TO EFFICIENT USE OF WATER
Humans occupy every corner of the Earth, from
frozen wastelands to barren desert and everywhere in between.
Some people have never seen standing or running water. Yet
not only do they survive, their surroundings are all they know
and most of them are relatively happy. Thus the term: "happiness
is a state of mind". To survive in such extreme environments,
people develop a series of habits and attitudes that allow
them to exploit and preserve all of their basic necessities.
Water is always right at the top of the list for all of them.
Residents and visitors to the Big Bear Valley
are adaptable also. In recent years, your water providers have
requested that everyone contribute toward community-wide water
conservation and it was very successful. This was accomplished
by minor changes in the way we think about and use water while
increasing our water-use efficiency. We all still have landscaped
yards, toilets, dishwashers, and sinks. But with a few minor
changes in habits, we were able to significantly reduce the
community's water use. Your water providers applaud your past
efforts and encourage you to continue to find new ways to conserve
our most precious resource. Just keep remembering that happiness
is a state of mind.
