CONSERVATION CORNER
DRIPS and IRRIGATION EFFICIENCY
Leaks waste water 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. Often they can be repaired quickly and easily. Check
for leaks frequently and repair them immediately. When you
fix your leaks, you are not only saving water, you are also
saving money on your utility bills and the electricity needed
to deliver water to your doorstep.

Once you have fixed your leaks, you wouldn't
randomly turn your faucet on and let the water run down the
drain, would you? Well, this is exactly what you are doing
when you over-water your landscape!
Efficient irrigation will be crucial this coming
summer. Since it appears that winter rain and snow are going
to be below average again, we will all need to find ways
to get by using less water. Irrigating our landscapes efficiently
will be a critical component of the Big Bear Valley's water
conservation effort in coming months. Efficient irrigation
does not mean dead plants! It means applying the minimum
amount of water necessary to keep your landscape healthy
and attractive.
Prior to the arrival of summer and the beginning
of outdoor watering, CSD and DWP will inform their customers
of this year's irrigation regulations and provide helpful
hints to ensure efficient use of our dwindling water resource.
Until then, we plan to attend irrigation efficiency workshops
and research this subject to prepare for what appears to
be another dry year. Please identify ways you can conserve
water. Water conservation is most successful when everyone
contributes and this year we are going to need everyone's
help.
