DWP Mission
The mission of the
DWP is to manage
our limited water
resources through
responsible planning,
in order to assure
quality water and
essential services in
the most cost-effective
manner, for our
current and future
customers.

WHERE

The City of Big Bear Lake Department of Water and Power (DWP), is nestled at approximately 6,750 feet above sea level in the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains. With more than 15,000 customers, the DWP is dedicated to providing the City of Big Bear Lake, Moonridge, Fawnskin, Sugarloaf, Lake William, and portions of Erwin Lake and Rimforest with a safe, reliable source of water for public health and safety.

WHAT

All of the DWP's water comes from snow and rain that percolates back into the ground. Only three to five percent of the snow and rain reaches the water table, and is recharged for future use. The remaining water is used by evapotranspiration and evaporation. The DWP service area is in its sixth year of drought, and water efficiency is more important than ever. The DWP does not use lake water for public health and safety and no additional water is imported into the Big Bear Valley.

HOW

The DWP maintains 50 wells, 13 booster stations, 17 reservoirs, 16 chlorination stations, 20 sample stations, approximately 170 miles of water main pipeline, and a complex pressure-reducing network. The DWP has four operational divisions: Administrative, Customer Field Service, Transmission and Distribution, and Source of Supply.

WHO

The DWP’s team of dedicated employees works hard to ensure that all of its customers are provided with the best service possible. The DWP strives to recruit, hire, and train highly qualified professionals in order to provide its customers with efficient and courteous service.

The DWP has an aggressive water conservation program that has significantly reduced summertime consumption over the past several years. Community outreach programs keep customers informed on current water conditions, and the Technical Review Team monitors, evaluates, and analyzes well and water consumption data on a continuous basis. The DWP’s five-member Board of Commissioners is appointed by the City of Big Bear Lake's City Council, and is made up of caring policy makers committed to safeguarding our most precious resource "water".

The DWP is dedicated to fiscal responsibility while focusing its resources on improving the infrastructure and ensuring that the current and future water needs of the community are met.
